Police in Yen Hoa Ward, Hanoi, announced on July 8, 2026, that 13 people were charged with alleged drug trafficking and organizing illegal drug use, DTiNews reported.

The inquiry began after a person tested positive for cannabis in a routine screening. Police identified 21 people they suspect of using, selling or organizing drug activity. They seized 97 cannabis plants close to harvest from indoor grows at two properties, and about 3.4 kilograms of dried cannabis at one suspect's home. Police allege sales were arranged on social media, paid by bank transfer and delivered to pick-up points.

The report names three suspects as Hoang Huy Hung, Tao Duc Thinh and Nguyen Van Thang. All statements are police allegations. The report states no verdict, and the investigation is ongoing.

Why it matters: In this case a single positive drug test led police to a wider network of suspects.
