Tajikistan: Four Men Detained in Asht District Over About 6.5 kg of Hashish

Police call it a transnational group. The suspects are in pre-trial detention.

Police in Asht district, Sughd province, detained four men in a case the Interior Ministry describes as a transnational drug trafficking group, according to Asia-Plus. The report names them as Ilmiddin Amonov, Amriddin Odirmatov, Muhiddin Odirmatov and Shahrom Odirmatov. About 6.5 kg of hashish was seized.

The alleged organizer is a 53-year-old with a prior drug conviction; three brothers are the other suspects. The drugs reportedly came from Afghanistan, destined for smuggling through Tajikistan to another country. An Afghan citizen is mentioned as a contact and is not described as detained. The suspects are in pre-trial detention.

Why it matters: This is a trafficking-scale police claim, reported from the ministry's side. Pre-trial detention without a verdict is the stage where defendants have the least protection.
