Taiwanese Woman Indicted After 16 kg of Marijuana Found in Gifts From Bangkok Trip

She says a man she met online paid for the trip and asked her to carry the gifts.

A 50-year-old unemployed Taiwanese woman, identified only by the surname Wu, was stopped at Taoyuan Airport Terminal 1 after flying in from Bangkok in October 2025. Customs X-ray flagged her luggage, and over 30 packets of marijuana totalling about 16.2 kg were found hidden in gifts.

She says a man she met online paid for her Thailand trip and asked her to carry the gifts, and that she did not know they held drugs. Police believe she was used as an unwitting courier. The Aviation Police Bureau passed the case to Taoyuan prosecutors, who indicted her in mid-November. Police are still looking for the suspected mastermind and local accomplices.

Why it matters: Police themselves believe she was used as an unwitting courier, yet she was still indicted.
