Two Polish Men Charged in Malmö Over 246 kg of Cannabis Hidden in a Sofa

Customs say an X-ray at the Öresund Bridge found cannabis resin in a van in November 2025.

Two Polish men, aged 47 and 32, have been charged with aggravated drug smuggling at Malmö district court. The 47-year-old drove a German-registered van from Denmark over the Öresund Bridge at night in November 2025.

A customs officer suspected the driver of being impaired and sent the van for closer checks. An X-ray of a plastic-wrapped sofa showed 246 kg of cannabis resin, with an estimated street value of about SEK 27 million. The 32-year-old is suspected of acting as a scout, checking for customs and police controls ahead of the van.

Customs say the case points to a larger network with links to Spain. Both men deny wrongdoing, and no verdict has been given. They are not named.

Why it matters: Both men deny the charges, and customs' claim of a larger network is part of the prosecution's case, not a finding.
