Police on foot patrol in Auki town, Malaita Province, saw a man drinking homebrew (kwaso) beside a shop while carrying a large basket, according to a Royal Solomon Islands Police Force media release. A search of the basket found bundles of dried marijuana.

Police put the street value at about SBD 3,000; no weight or number of bundles is given. The arrest was on 7 May 2025. The man is 25 years old and is not named. He was remanded at Auki Correctional Facility awaiting a court date. No court outcome is reported.

Why it matters: A basket of marijuana worth a few thousand dollars puts a young man in a correctional facility before any hearing. How long he waited is not reported.
