Romanian Appeals Court Rejects U.S. Rapper Wiz Khalifa's Appeal Against Nine-Month Sentence

He was convicted of possessing cannabis for personal use after a 2024 festival.

By Donte West · Oct 15, 2026

Romanian police stopped the US rapper Wiz Khalifa, named in the report as Cameron Jibril Thomaz, in July 2024 after he allegedly smoked cannabis on stage at a festival in Constanta County. Prosecutors said he held over 18 grams of cannabis and had used some on stage.

A lower court first imposed a fine of 3,600 lei, and prosecutors appealed for a harsher outcome. In December 2025 he was convicted of possessing drugs for personal use and given nine months in jail. On 26 February 2026, the Constanta Court of Appeal rejected his appeal as inadmissible and refused to suspend the sentence.

It is unclear whether Romania will seek extradition, as he is a US citizen who does not live in Romania.

Why it matters: The conviction is for possession for personal use, with an amount of about 18 grams, and the sentence is nine months in jail.
