Woman, 63, Arrested at Lagos Airport With About 31 kg of Cannabis in Two Boxes

Nigeria's drug agency says she travelled via Thailand and Dubai. She says a consignment was given to her.

A 63-year-old woman, described in the report as Chinese and naturalised in Malaysia, was arrested on 17 May 2026 at Terminal 2 arrivals at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. About 31 kg of a strain the article calls "Canadian Loud", described as synthetic cannabis, was found in two large travel boxes.

She travelled from Malaysia to Thailand, then to Lagos via Dubai on Emirates. She told investigators she is a caregiver in Malaysia, that her daughter sponsored the trip, and that she received the consignment after two weeks in Thailand. The report names her as Ting Hung Kiong, as printed in the source.

It describes an arrest and ongoing interrogation, and does not mention charges or court proceedings.

Why it matters: Her account of how she received the boxes comes from her statement to investigators, and no charge is reported.
