Minnesota: Cannabis Expungement Board Is Reviewing About 98,000 Felony Cases and Held a Community Clinic

The board can vacate and dismiss felony marijuana convictions, not only seal them.

The Cannabis Expungement Board, created by the 2023 Adult-Use Cannabis Act, is reviewing about 98,000 felony cannabis cases from a state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension database, the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder reported. It can vacate and dismiss felony marijuana convictions, not only seal them.

A July 15, 2026 clinic at the Urban League in North Minneapolis let people fill out intake applications on site. Staff say they review each cannabis case for eligibility and no attorney is required. The board's executive director said the first year and a half went to building data systems, and no counts of cases decided were given.

Why it matters: The review is large and still early, and the article does not mention resentencing or anyone still incarcerated.
