Three Malaysian men aged 25 to 29, one of them a rapper, were held at Wattay International Airport in Vientiane in late May 2025. About 86 kg of cannabis was found in 103 packages spread over six pieces of luggage. They were reportedly due to fly on to Germany on a Thai Airways flight.

Malaysian police learned of the case from the Foreign Ministry on 3 June. The report gives two arrest dates, 27 May and 28 May. A preliminary investigation was ongoing, and no charges or court steps were reported. The men are not named here.

Why it matters: The men were held in a third country, with a flight on to Germany still ahead of them, and no charges had been reported.
