Washington Hylton, a 76-year-old London resident, was stopped at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay on October 1, 2026, before a flight to London, the Jamaica Observer reported.
He told officers he had some ganja, and about eight ounces was found in his suitcase. His lawyer said it was herbs for medicinal use and that he thought eight ounces was allowed.
He was charged with possession, dealing and attempting to export ganja. He pleaded guilty in the St. James Parish Court, and fines totaled J$17,000. No evidence was offered on the dealing charge.
The report does not state his nationality, only that he lives in London.
Why it matters: He was charged with attempted export as well as possession, so carrying ganja through the airport was treated as a separate matter from simply holding it.
