A woman described as a U.S. citizen was arrested at Milan Malpensa airport shortly after arriving on a flight from the United States, according to Italian newspaper Il Giorno in April 2026.

Customs officers and Guardia di Finanza officers found about 17 kilograms of marijuana flowers in her luggage. The paper says her nervous behavior at the document check led officers to search her bags more closely. It puts the illegal market value at roughly €170,000 to €250,000.

She was arrested on a charge of international drug trafficking, and the drugs were seized. The report gives no name, no date of the arrest beyond "recent hours," and no details of court proceedings or custody.

Why it matters: At Italian airports, arriving passengers can be selected for a closer search based on how they behave at the checks, and a large quantity is treated as trafficking.
