On July 14, 2026, two men arrived at Frankfurt Airport on the same flight from Abu Dhabi. Customs officers selected them for checks after comparing passenger data, and a sniffer dog flagged the second find.
A 20-year-old had about 17.6 kilograms of marijuana in his suitcase. A 21-year-old had about 18.4 kilograms in 16 plastic packets. That is roughly 36 kilograms in total. Both were provisionally arrested and the drugs were seized. The report does not say whether the two were working together, and it does not name them or give their nationality.
A Frankfurt customs spokesperson said cannabis seizures at the airport have more than tripled compared with the year before. He added that many travelers do not realize that importing marijuana is still an offence, even though Germany has partly legalized cannabis.
Why it matters: Germany's partial legalization covers certain domestic possession and home growing. It does not allow bringing cannabis across the border.
