He told the court he used cannabis to treat a hernia. The court rejected that defence.

A man was arrested in the act in late July 2026 in the village of Mondoukou by the Aboisso anti-narcotics brigade after offering cannabis balls ("boules de cannabis") to plainclothes officers, according to Fratmat. The Grand-Bassam section court sentenced him to 24 months of firm imprisonment and a 300,000 CFA franc fine for possession and sale of narcotics.

He said the cannabis was for traditional treatment of a hernia, admitted using cannabis and said he bought it in the Phare neighbourhood of Grand-Bassam. The court rejected the defence because it contradicted statements he had signed at the police station. The report does not state the quantity seized, and it identifies him only as G. I.

Why it matters: This is a street-level sale with a firm two-year sentence and a fine. The report gives no amount.
