Judicial police say about 250 plants were seized in two early-morning raids.

Costa Rica's judicial police (OIJ) carried out two early-morning raids in San Ramón on July 15, 2026. They followed a month-long investigation that began with tips from the public.

Two 42-year-olds, a man identified in the report by the surname González and a woman identified by the surname Vargas, were detained. We refer to them here as G. and V. because the report gives surnames only.

Officers seized about 250 cannabis plants and cannabis ready for use. They also took lamps, fertilizer, air conditioners, phones and some cash. The two are suspected of violating Costa Rica's psychotropics law and were to be handed to prosecutors, who would decide what happens to them next.

The report does not give an outcome. Detention is not a finding of guilt.

Why it matters: Police in Costa Rica act on tips from the public, and a large grow can lead to a month-long investigation before any raid.
