Customs officers at Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport stopped a male passenger who walked through the nothing-to-declare lane after they found his behavior suspicious. The report was published in April 2026 and was first posted by China's customs authority.
In his backpack they found drug-use items, including syringes and straws, along with a small box holding a suspected cannabis substance. More suspected drug items were in a sock and a trouser pocket, and his suitcase held another packet of suspected cannabis.
Laboratory tests showed 0.62 grams of methamphetamine and 1.92 grams of cannabis containing THC. Customs handed the case to its anti-smuggling department for handling. The report does not say what happened next, and it does not name the man or give his nationality.
This was not described as a formal arrest, and the amounts were small. Methamphetamine was also involved, so cannabis was only part of the case.
Why it matters: Even small amounts can bring a customs case in mainland China, and officers pick passengers out based on behavior at the border.
