Federal Police in Fortaleza, in Brazil's Ceará state, arrested a woman on August 22, 2026, after screening flagged a checked suitcase that came in on a flight from Manaus.

Inside, officers found about 15.7 kilograms of skunk, a high-potency form of cannabis, pressed into tablet-shaped blocks. Agents identified the owner of the bag and opened it in her presence.

She was arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking and taken to the Federal Police regional headquarters. Police are now trying to find the supplier and the person who was meant to receive the drugs. The report adds that there have been other large cannabis seizures on the Manaus to Fortaleza route this month.

The woman is not named, and the report does not give her age or nationality. An arrest is an allegation, not a finding of guilt.

Why it matters: Brazilian airports use X-ray screening on checked bags, including on domestic flights.
