Three American Cruise Passengers Fined in Nassau for Small Amounts of Marijuana

They were taken off the Carnival Freedom and fined, with a month in prison as the alternative.

By Donte West · Oct 15, 2026

Three American passengers on the Carnival Freedom were found with small amounts of marijuana on 30 March 2026. They were removed from the ship in Nassau.

A Senior Magistrate in Nassau fined two of them, Jerry Cooper and Anissa Johnson, US$100 each, and the third, Gregory Hightower, US$150. Each fine carried an alternative of one month in prison. The names are as printed in the source, a regional wire report on the court case.

Why it matters: The amounts were small, yet the passengers were taken off the ship, fined by a magistrate and given a month in prison as the alternative to paying.
