Afghanistan: Kabul Courts Order Prison Terms and Lashes for Drug Sellers, Including Hashish

KabulNow reports 37 people in Kabul were punished in January and February 2026. No quantities are given.

At least 40 people were punished under Taliban primary-court rulings approved by the Taliban Supreme Court, according to KabulNow. Of these, 37 were in Kabul, convicted of selling or trafficking drugs (narcotic tablets, methamphetamine, hashish), alcohol offences and theft.

The Kabul punishments were carried out on 19 January and 1 to 2 February 2026. Sentences were 7 months to 3 years in prison plus 10 to 39 lashes. Three men in Faryab were flogged publicly for alcohol offences, each also getting two years. No drug quantities are given.

Why it matters: The report mixes hashish with other drugs, alcohol and theft, so the part about cannabis can't be separated. It shows corporal punishment being used alongside prison for drug-related offences.
